The Ontario PC government has delivered another major milestone in the return of the Northlander passenger rail service with the completion of the North Bay Rail Bypass.
This new 982-metre track will shorten travel times by 15 minutes, keep passenger trains clear of busy freight operations, and improve safety and efficiency for families, workers, and businesses across the North.
For too long, Northern Ontario residents were left without the reliable passenger rail service they deserve. Under the leadership of Premier Doug Ford, our PC government made a commitment to restore the Northlander, and we’re keeping that promise.
The restored Northlander will connect Toronto to Timmins with a rail link to Cochrane, including 16 stops along the way. This means:
- More time with family and friends thanks to faster travel.
- Stronger northern industries and resource sectors, with better access to good-paying jobs.
- Improved access to essential services like healthcare and education.
- Boosted tourism and economic growth across Northern Ontario.
The return of the Northlander is just one more example of how we are protecting Ontario’s progress, keeping costs down, and building a stronger future for every region of our province.
